Strip the marketing off and the category comes down to four things. Course design that could stand as a set without the golf. A kitchen and bar you’d visit even if you never picked up a putter. An evening that turns adult without locking families out of the daytime. And pacing built for groups: fast rounds, easy scoring, no pileup at the first hole.

Most places nail one. The glow-in-the-dark spot has the blacklight. The boardwalk course has the nostalgia. Getting all four under one roof is the difference between an activity and a plan people fight to be included in.

That’s the bar we set for ourselves. Here’s how we clear it.

The Short Game Was the Point

Puttery opened its first venue at Grandscape in The Colony, just north of Dallas, in September 2021. The golf entertainment boom was already crowded with giant driving ranges when we started, so we went the other direction on purpose: smaller rooms, bigger sets, and a game anyone can play holding a drink. For a minute the working name was Urban Box. We got better.

Each venue is a multimillion-dollar set build that goes up in months, not years, which is how one venue in Texas became 10 cities in under three years. The money is in the rooms. You’ll see it.

Worlds, Not Windmills

Every hole is a world you step into, not just play through. That line does a lot of work around here, so let’s make it literal. In Pittsburgh, the Garage runs nine holes through vintage cars, gas pumps, and stacked tires. In Dallas, where it all started, the Library stacks vintage books, constellation models, Tiffany-style lamps, and Victorian rugs until you’re putting through a 19th-century professor’s study. Think life-size Clue board, minus the murder. The Lodge keeps the powder fresh year-round, with a ski lift built for the photo you’re already planning. The Conservatory puts redwoods, desert cacti, and cherry blossoms between you and the cup. And on the Illusion course, if the room starts bending, that’s the room’s job, not the second cocktail. In New York, the Lodge hides a wine cellar stacked with Puttery Vino barrels and a bubbling hot tub on the patio, because ski trips have priorities.

People call this immersive mini golf. Fair, as long as immersive means you can touch the tires. Courses run nine holes each, and every venue keeps two to four of them, so no two cities play the same. About 30 minutes per course. Up to four names on a digital scorecard that handles the counting. No pencils. No math. No mercy. Everything is built to survive your most competitive friend. We knew you’d bring one. Drinks find you between holes.

One Google review of our New York venue put it this way: “plenty of crazy photo ops to record the ridiculousness that will definitely ensue.” We didn’t pay her. We just built the rooms.

The Kitchen Cooks. The Bar Belongs to Your City.

The food is not a concession stand doing its best. It’s a scratch kitchen making dishes in-house daily: artisan pizzas, shareable plates, weekend brunch at most venues for the crowd that believes in mimosas before a tee time.

The bar is where we get local. Every Puttery pours a rotating lineup of cocktails created by that city’s own bartenders. We call them Hometown Heroes. The Dallas list is built by Dallas bartenders. The Pittsburgh list belongs to Pittsburgh. Corporate didn’t write it, which is exactly why it’s good. Beer, wine, and zero-proof rounds too, because the scorecard doesn’t care what’s in your glass.

Family-friendly during the day. Built for adults at night. That line runs the building.

Daytime, every location welcomes all ages. Kids play. Parents eat food that isn’t shaped like a dinosaur. Then the evening turns: lights lower, music up, and most venues shift to 18+ or 21+, with the exact hour set city by city. Kansas City stays all ages all day, every day, because Kansas City does its own thing. The courses don’t change. The vibe does.

Guests describe it back to us almost word for word. A Yelp review of our Charlotte venue: “enjoy with the kids during the day & adults in the evening!” A Google review in Kansas City called the daytime family friendly and was “certain it would be a fun place for adults at night.” When strangers on the internet quote your positioning back to you unprompted, the positioning is probably true.

Don’t Take Our Word for It

Forbes has covered Puttery as part of the eatertainment wave, the same shift that produced dine-in movie theaters, because putting a full restaurant and bar inside the game changes what the night is. Rory McIlroy backed the concept with an early $10 million investment. When our New York venue opened, Time Out walked all 24,000 square feet of it: five levels and a rooftop bar heated straight through winter.

The guest reviews are blunter. “The most stunning mini putt I’ve ever seen!” from a Google review in Pittsburgh this spring. “Easily one of the nicest mini golf experiences I’ve been to,” from another in Dallas this June. We’re aware every brand claims something like this. The difference is we brought receipts, and they’re linked.

Before You Arrive

Do you need a reservation? No. Walk-ins are always welcome, and we hold tee times specifically for them. Should you book anyway? If it’s a Friday or Saturday night, yes. Weekends and holidays fill up, and booking takes about a minute. Reservations open 21 days out (30 for Dallas) through the Book Now button on any location page.

Here’s the part that trips people up: your booking time is your check-in time, not your tee-off time. Show up at the time on your confirmation, check in with the concierge at the front desk, and we’ll get your group onto a course as soon as one opens. If there’s a short wait, the bar is not a consolation prize but you won’t be waiting long. It’s half the reason people come.

Need to cancel or move your reservation? Your Tock confirmation email has a cancel button, and rebooking the slot you want at puttery.com is faster than calling. Refunds go back to your original payment method, usually within 5 to 10 business days.

On price: gameplay is per person, and unlimited. Typically $25 for adults ($32 in NYC) and only $15 for kids, everywhere. And unlimited means all-you-can-play (or putt) so you can get after it with friendly competition all day long. Your location’s page has current pricing, gameplay offers, and whatever else is running that month.

As for what to wear, there’s no dress code to study. On any given night the room holds first dates, birthday crews, and people straight off work, all dressed accordingly. The only advice that matters: shoes you can putt in. A few venues run their courses across multiple floors (New York has four), so flat soles beat ambitious ones. All venues are ADA compliant and have elevators or ramps. Charlotte, for example, plays entirely on one level.

On-Site Experience

Check-in happens at the front desk right inside the door. We confirm your reservation or set up your walk-in and send you off to play. The scorecards are digital and follow you from hole to hole, so nobody does math and nobody argues about the math. Mini putt play runs about 30 minutes per nine-hole course for most groups. Budget more if your group includes someone who reads greens like they’re being televised.

Each scorecard holds up to four players. Bigger crew? We stack tee times back-to-back so foursomes rotate through together and nobody waits long.

Your drink comes with you. Order at the bar before your round or from a server on the course, then set it on a ledge before you swing. The kitchen is scratch, not a heat-lamp situation: chef-driven plates, artisan pizzas, shareables built for a table that keeps reaching. Every bar also pours the Hometown Heroes, a rotating lineup of cocktails created by our own local bartenders in each city, alongside zero-proof drinks that got real attention.

And this surprises people: there’s no requirement to play. Come for dinner. Come for drinks. Plenty of guests never touch a putter, and the lounges are built for exactly that.

Each city has its own personality. Puttery Charlotte runs the Conservatory and the Library in South End, and the first-timer reaction there is consistent. “We didn’t know what to expect. This place is soo much fun,” one Google reviewer wrote after her visit last fall. Puttery Minneapolis stacks three courses on the edge of the North Loop, and a visitor this spring called it “one of those spots where you walk in and immediately feel the energy.” In New York, amNY called our Meatpacking District venue “mini golf with a nightlife twist,” and the city’s official tourism guide files us under nightlife. Tips for a Great First Visit

If you’ve never played, here’s how to play mini golf in one breath: grip light, stand square to your line, keep your eyes over the ball, swing smooth instead of hard. The holes reward touch, not power. Everything else is theater, and the theater is the point. The player laughing at their own triple bogey is having a better night than the one keeping score like it’s a major.
